It also has a lot of potential. Jessica M. Thompson, the film’s director and co-writer, creates a disturbing atmosphere that indicates we’re going to enter a dark and demented world. But finally, her picture becomes merely black – as in, it’s difficult to see what’s going on, with particularly off-putting herky-jerky visual elements.
The Invitation is based mostly on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, so expect to chuckle when you watch it in theatres. Following the death of her mother, Evie, a little American girl, decides to undergo a DNA test to see whether she has any additional living ancestors. Her long-lost cousin is Oliver, a long-lost relative she encounters in a restaurant. He asks her to be with the rest of her family in England for a marriage ceremony.
