The CSK-owned franchise in the CSA T20 League has signed Faf Du Plessis as a marquee player.

The debut season of the CSA T20 League is set to take place in January-February 2023, with all six teams owned by current IPL club owners.

According to a source, former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis has been signed as the marquee signing for the first season of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) T20 League by the Johannesburg franchise owned by IPL heavyweights Chennai Super Kings (CSK). (Read More Cricket News)

Du Plessis, who last season played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL, was a member of the CSK from 2011 to 2021, with the exception of 2016 and 2017, when the franchise was suspended.

The deadline for direct player acquisition for the six-team next league was Wednesday.

His T20 stats are as follows:

In December of same year, despite having only played four T20Is before that, du Plessis was granted the T20 captaincy in a series against New Zealand. The following February, he was awarded the position on a permanent basis. Du Plessis had proved himself as a complete batsman, capable of shifting gears and anchoring an innings, and had previously scored a similar performance against India in December 2013. His 134 in the second innings of the Johannesburg Test brought South Africa within eight runs of completing the most successful Test chase, 458, and ultimately resulted in a draw. When Kallis departed after the following match, du Plessis was an obvious option to replace him at No.3.

It took a bit longer for du Plessis to recreate such accomplishments in limited-overs. In his 51st ODI, against Australia in a triangular series in Harare in August 2014, he eventually got his first century in the format, but then the floodgates opened.

Du Plessis came into the 2015 World Cup in strong form, having becoming the second South African after Richard Levi to register a T20I century in February of that year. He was among those affected by South Africa’s semi-final defeat.
