“Shaheen Shah Afridi injury is a Big relief for the Indian top order batsmen. Sad we won’t be seeing him in #AsiaCup2022 Get fit soon Champ @iShaheenAfridi,” Waqar Younis tweeted.
Shaheen Shah Afridi, the hero of Pakistan’s emphatic victory over India in the 2021 T20 World Cup, has been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 competition. Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that the imperious pacer would be part of their expanded squad for the tournament.
With India set to face Pakistan in the Asia Cup on August 28, Younis’ tweet will no doubt add fuel to an already raging fire.
Shaheen Shah Afridi injury updates
During his country’s Test tour to Sri Lanka last month, the cricketer suffered a right knee ligament injury. The injury forced him to miss the second Test, in which his team was defeated by the hosts by 246 runs, erasing their 1-0 lead in the two-match series. He also skipped his team’s subsequent flight to the Netherlands for a one-day international series.
Afridi has been advised to rest for six to eight weeks, according to the most recent updates. Because of his extended absence from competitive cricket, he will miss Pakistan’s home T20I series against England in September.
Dr Najeebullah Soomro, Chief Medical Officer of the PCB, stated:
“I spoke with Shaheen, and he is understandably upset by the news, but he is a brave young man who has vowed to return to his country and team with vigour.” Although he made progress during his rehabilitation in Rotterdam, it is now clear that he will need more time and will most likely return to competitive cricket in October.”
