Neeraj Chopra, an Olympic gold medalist in the javelin throw, became the first Indian to win the prestigious Diamond League Finals title on Thursday. Chopra’s first throw was a foul, but on his second attempt, he soon climbed the scoreboard with a throw of 88.44m, which was his fourth career best and ultimately the winning shot. The distances of the Indian athlete’s next four throws were 88.00, 86.11, 87.00, and 83.60 metres. German thrower Julian Weber came in third with a best distance of 83.73m.

Neeraj Chopra ended the season with a touching tweet after accomplishing the remarkable achievement. He will always cherish this milestone because some of his closest friends and family members were there. Chopra thanked the entire country for believing in him and stated, “Incredible feeling to conclude the 2022 season as Diamond Trophy champion,” while adding a photo of the Indian flag. Being in the stadium with my uncle and friends added an extra unique touch to the fantastic atmosphere.

The Twitter post has received more than 35,000 likes since it was shared. Numerous congratulations have been left for the “Diamond boy” in the comment area.

The 24-year-old Indian superstar is presently the reigning Diamond League champion, World Championships silver medalist, and Olympic gold medallist. He has only had 13 months to gain all of these. Overall, Neeraj Chopra’s season has been one to remember. Prior to earning the gold medal at the Kuortane Games, he began off with a throw of 89.30 metres at the Paavo Nurmi Games in June, breaking the previous national record.

Later, in the Stockholm Diamond League Meet, the javelin standout broke the national record once more with a throw of 89.94 metres. Neeraj made a strong comeback to win his first medal at the World Championships, a silver. Then, to everyone’s surprise, Chopra had a groyne injury and was unable to compete in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He has, however, once more lived up to his reputation by bringing home the Diamond League championship.
