  • Two battery sizes are offered for the all-electric estate.
  • Depending on the battery pack, has a range of up to 452 kilometres per charge

At the 2023 Auto Expo, MG Motor India plans to display numerous vehicles from its current lineup. In addition to teasing its new MG 5 electric estate ahead of its Auto Expo debut, the automaker has previously revealed that it will be exhibiting the MG 4 electric hatchback at the event.

In the second half of 2020, the MG5 Estate had its European premiere. In the middle of 2021, the model underwent a facelift. Although it is known as the MG5 in Europe, the model was first introduced as the Ei5 in China in 2017 and was made by MG’s sibling brand Roewe.

The MG5’s most recent edition features a more minimalistic look than the one before it. The streamlined bumper has a central air dam and geometric vents on the sides. The nose is distinguished by sleek sweptback headlights flanking a narrow closed-off grille. The simple pattern continues to the side with a smooth, flowing shoulder line that continues to the back. A clear, uncluttered bumper, a sloped rear windscreen, and sizable taillamps with Y-shaped LED light guides define the back.

The inside of the cabin has a free-standing centre touchscreen and a layered dashboard made of soft-touch materials.

The MG5 is comparable in size to the Skoda Octavia, measuring 4,600 mm in length, 1,818 mm in width, and 1,543 mm in height. Its dimensions are 4,689 mm in length, 1,829 mm in width, and 1,469 mm in height.

The MG 5 is available in two battery sizes in European markets: a larger 61.1 kWh battery with a WLTP range of up to 452 km and a smaller 50.3 kWh unit with a WLTP range of up to 350 km. It’s interesting to note that the larger battery pack is coupled with a motor that has less power—115 kW and 280 Nm as opposed to 130 kW and 280 Nm on the normal model.

Given that the estate body type has not particularly taken off in the Indian market, even in the past, it is still uncertain whether MG would offer the MG 5 there at some point in the future.
