KatKin, a London-based online cat food ordering and delivery startup, has raised $22 million in a Series A round of funding.
KatKin is a direct-to-consumer service for personalised cat food founded by siblings Brett and Nikki O’Farrell, who have backgrounds in finance and advertising, respectively.
KatKin’s service is similar to meal kit delivery services like Gousto, but for cat food.
Users pay for a monthly subscription of cat food tailored to their cat’s characteristics and needs, which is delivered to their home.
Verlinvest and Perwyn led the Series A round, with Octopus Ventures joining.
The new funds, according to the founders, will be used to expand manufacturing capacity, research and development, and marketing.
The pair, both cat owners, believe there is an underserved market for online sales of specialised cat food because dogs and their owners have received the majority of investor attention – despite the fact that the global cat food market is estimated to be worth more than $40 billion.
“There is no single global cat brand that is truly trusted and unwavering,” Brett explained.
“As a result, much capital, particularly in the emerging company category, tends to flow to dog-first businesses.”
