For decades, John Cena has been a WWE mainstay. In recent years, the 16-time world champion has prioritised his career away from the ring.
Cena was last seen on WWE TV during Summer Slam 2021. The Leader of The Cenation unsuccessfully challenged Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship at the event.
Following the match, Cena was assaulted by the return of Brock Lesnar, who set his sights on his former foe while stating his desire for another shot at the Universal title.
Cena broke his silence following his devastating loss to The Tribal Chief at SummerSlam 2021. The former WWE Champion took to Twitter and said the following:
With that said, the question that remains is: has John Cena retired from WWE?
John Cena discussed his WWE future in a recent interview with Ellen DeGeneres. The Hollywood star made it clear that he will most likely miss this year’s WrestleMania 38:
"WrestleMania is typically held in late March or early April. I'm not sure if I'll make it this year. That's a good dilemma to have because there are a lot of good opportunities coming up that I'd love to take. If everything falls into place, I'm not sure if I'll be able to attend WrestleMania."

During the same conversation, Cena addressed the WWE Universe, stating that he is not done with WWE by any means. Cena stated that WWE is still his home and spoke briefly about his recent summer run:
“I’ll tell everyone watching that I’m not done with WWE by any means. That is my home, and I adore it. I was able to return for a few months during the summer to entertain audiences as they returned to arenas, and I’m far from done performing.”
Cena left WWE to focus on establishing himself as a major Hollywood star, and the money involved in these mega Hollywood projects does not allow him to risk injury by wrestling.
In an interview a few years ago, John Cena apologised to The Rock for insulting him for leaving WWE for Hollywood. Cena described how a WWE injury could cause a delay in Hollywood projects.

John Cena in Hollywood
Apart from hosting the Wipeout show and other film and television projects, the WWE legend is very busy in Hollywood.
Cena has only wrestled three times since 2019, with his most recent match taking place at WrestleMania 36 against Bray Wyatt.
John Cena is relieved to see that WWE has a “life” after him and is proud to leave the company in a better state than when he arrived. A few years ago, the former WWE Champion stated that he will never retire from WWE.
