It’s easy to think that the Tekken 8 State of Play trailer was too good to be true, and you wouldn’t be wrong if you assumed that the reveal video was entirely made up of pre-rendered footage. Surely, when Tekken 8 launches on PS5 hardware, actual Tekken 8 gameplay will not run and look that good? Yes, according to Katsuhiro Harada of Bandai Namco, it will!
Tekken 8 is in development and runs on Unreal Engine 5. During yesterday’s Sony State Of Play livestream, the fighting octequel was revealed. Bandai Namco has not yet announced a release date for the game, but PC is confirmed as a platform alongside current-gen consoles. Check out the real-time rendered trailer below, and prepare for a hefty dose of the punchings.
Katsuhiro Harada, the director of Tekken 8, has revealed more information about what viewers were watching during the State of Play reveal. He explained that it was taken from the still-in-development story mode and “played on PlayStation 5.” “In other words, all of the character models, backgrounds, and effects are the same ones that are used in-game,” he explains.

Tekken 8 trailer and Released platform
The Tekken 8 gameplay in the trailer was chosen to “[demonstrate] the quality of this game on PS5”. The newly created playable character models, small details like how water droplets run down characters’ skin, and dynamic weather like tornadoes and waves are all visual highlights.
Furthermore, Harada claims that the quality of the work-in-progress build “is dynamically improving each day.”
Unfortunately, the Tekken 8 release date is still unknown, with fans being told to “Stay tuned” for updates.
Tekken 8 will be released on Steam for PC, as well as PlayStation and Xbox consoles, at a later date determined by Bandai Namco. They just haven’t said when.
