Hardik Pandya, India’s star all-rounder, could be named vice-captain for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup tournaments. According to BCCI sources, Pandya could take over for KL Rahul, who was recently tested positive for COVID-19 and had to miss the five-match T20I series against West Indies, which he was supposed to play in.
“The management team is debating over one name for vice-captain. It could be Hardik Pandya, who has previously performed well for us. Under his leadership, the Gujarat Titans won the IPL 2022 championship. He performed admirably in the series against South Africa and England. We want to name an all-rounder for this position, and Hardik deserves it right now “According to sources.
Rahul had previously undergone surgery for a groin injury suffered shortly before the home T20I series against South Africa in June. He resumed his training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru after his surgery.
KL Rahul was named the vice-captain of India in both white-ball formats after star batsman Virat Kohli resigned from the T20I captaincy following the T20 World Cup in November of last year and was replaced as the ODI team captain the following month by Rohit Sharma.
He was also named vice-captain of India’s Test team in December 2021 after Rohit Sharma, who was India’s then-test vice-captain, was forced to withdraw from the series due to injury.

Hardik Pandya after debut
Pandya made his debut as vice-captain while wearing the Blue jersey during the June home series against South Africa. Following the cancellation of the final T20I, the series had ended in a 2-2 draw. The Indian team that travelled to Ireland to play two T20Is was then given his name as captain. That series was won 2-0 by India.
Pandya made an impression with his performances during the England tour. In the white-ball portion of the tour, he was incredibly skilled with both the bat and the ball. His four innings of work resulted in 163 runs scored at an average of 40.75. Pandya scored two outstanding half-centuries, the best of which was 71. Additionally, he had 11 wickets for India, with the best bowling statistics being 4/24.
Following this, Pandya was named India’s vice-captain for the T20I series against the West Indies. The series is still ongoing, with India leading 2-1.
The much-anticipated Asia Cup cricket tournament will begin on August 27 this year. This year’s ICC T20 World Cup will take place in October and November.
