Former Steelers cornerback Joe Haden announced his retirement from football on Wednesday morning, according to his agent.
Given that he spent last season with the Steelers, the move is a little strange. He requested a contract extension, but the Steelers let him finish his current contract and made no attempt to re-sign him.
With Haden retiring with the Browns, he may feel betrayed by the Steelers.
But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about his former teammates in black and gold.
He has been active on social media, praising Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick’s performance and wishing outside linebacker T.J. Watt a speedy recovery after sustaining a pectoral injury that placed him on injured reserve.
Haden also got a tattoo of himself in a half-Browns, half-Steelers jersey recently.
The 33-year-old played in 158 career games, starting 148 of them, and was a three-time Pro Bowler with 29 interceptions for 290 yards.
He has seven forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, and 615 total tackles in his career.
Haden was released by the Browns prior to the 2017 season after refusing to take a pay cut and making an immediate impact.

Haden’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said Haden would sign the ceremonial contract but has no plans to return to the league at the age of 33.
Haden was a first-round pick of the Browns in 2010 and played for the rival Pittsburgh Steelers for five seasons (2017-21).
Haden, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, started 67 games for the Steelers and 148 overall for the two teams, recording 29 interceptions and 615 tackles in his career.
