Asia cup 2022: India vs Hong Kong match results, Highlights & man of the match

Asia Cup 2022: India defeated Hong Kong by 40 runs, confirming their ‘Super Four’ berth.

On Wednesday, August 31, India defeated Hong Kong by 40 runs in their second Asia Cup 2022 match. With this victory, India maintained their lead in Group A and qualified for the ‘Super Four’ stage.

India scored 192/2 after being sent to bat first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, with Virat Kohli (59) and Suryakumar Yadav (68) leading the way.

The total was too much for Hong Kong, who were restricted to 152 for five, giving India a 40-run victory. India stormed into the Super Four with two straight wins, joining Group B leaders Afghanistan. The match between Pakistan and Hong Kong in Sharjah on Friday will determine who will be the second team from Group A to advance to the next stage.

India vs Hong Kong: Man of the match Suryakumar Yadav 68 (26)

Yadav scored runs all over the wicket, including a cut over backward point, a glorious hit over covers for a six, and scooping behind the wicket for a couple of more sixes. Yadav dominated the unseparated third wicket stand of 98 in only 42 deliveries with Virat Kohli, who recovered from a shaky start in which he was dropped on 15 by leg-spinner Mohammad Ghazanfar to score his second T20I fifty in six matches this calendar year.

Yadav was so dominant that he contributed half of India’s total number of sixes. Yadav ensured that India’s total was greater than Hong Kong’s.

Beginning with two fours swept on either side of square-leg, Yadav attempted to hit every ball and was successful more often.

India vs Hong Kong: Highlights

Yadav and Kohli, who scored an unbeaten 59 in 44 balls, more than compensated for the slow start, particularly by vice-captain Rahul, who required 39 deliveries for his 36, 16 of which were not scored off.

Captain Rohit Sharma was determined to keep the scoreboard ticking. Despite making only 21 in 13 deliveries, he was beaten by a slower one from right-arm medium-pacer Ayush Shukla and hit straight to mid-on for a simple catch.

Rahul, who was playing his second T20I in 2022, took a conservative approach. He took his time settling down and playing the ball on its merits, sometimes giving the associate member bowler more credit than they deserved.

Yadav hit 26 runs off the final over against Haroon Arshad, bringing India just eight runs short of 200. The pitch, which was completely different from the one used for the India-Pakistan game on Sunday, should have allowed India to score at least 220 points. That would have been a possibility if Rahul hadn’t squandered early deliveries.

IND vs HK: Highlights Hong Kong innings

HK vs IND: Hong Kong batsmen, who thought they were good chasers and thus chose to bowl first, promised to reduce the Indian total. Babar Hayat went after the Indian pacers in the Power Play, dismissing Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh as Hong Kong scored 29 in the final two overs of the Power Play, putting Hong Kong ahead of India (51/2 to 44/1).

The quick scoring by Hong Kong drained as the field spread out, as at the halfway point, Hong Kong were 65 for two, scoring only 14 in the next four overs, with leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja checking the flow of runs.

However, the fighting spirit displayed by Hong Kong’s lower order batsmen was admirable. Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan’s untidy bowling, which went for 44 and 53 runs in their respective four overs, also aided their cause.
