Global Ranked 2 Alexander Zverev withdraws from the 2022 US Open.

The US Open 2022 organisers have confirmed that Alexander Zverev has chosen to withdraw due to his ongoing ankle issue.

World No. 2 is Paris The US Open has announced that Alexander Zverev has withdrew while he continues to heal from ruptured ankle ligaments.

The injury Zverev, 25, sustained during his semi-final match against Rafael Nadal at the French Open in June has prevented him from playing since.

In order to repair three ruptured ligaments in his right ankle, he required surgery after leaving the Roland Garros court in a wheelchair.

The German finished second to Dominic Thiem in the 2020 US Open final after leading by two sets. The previous year, he advanced to the semifinals.

Despite won five Masters titles and the ATP Finals thrice, he has yet to win a Grand Slam tournament.

Stefan Kozlov, an American, will take his spot in the main draw of the competition, which runs from August 29 to September 11.

Before the injury prevented Zverev to miss Wimbledon, he had participated in 27 straight Grand Slams since his debut in 2015.

He will compete in the Davis Cup finals group stage for Germany next month.

The top-10 men’s player Zverev might not be the only one skipping the year’s final Grand Slam. Because of his unwillingness to receive the Covid vaccine, Novak Djokovic is unlikely to be allowed to participate.

The 21-time major champion was excluded from Montreal earlier this month and last week’s Cincinnati Masters due to the same issue.
